Abe Lichy spoke out amid the controversy surrounding his wife Erin Lichy’s prank call with Brynn Whitfield. The attorney addressed if Brynn was trying to “entrap” him, as Erin revealed she texted him before the call. Ubah Hassan then reacted to the revelation.
In a recent episode of the Real Housewives of New York, Brynn and Erin called Abe on speakerphone in a jokingly flirty way, seemingly without him realizing that the cameras and cast were listening. Ubah was offended for Abe, and many fans claimed the joke was inappropriate.
Ubah later argued with Brynn and Erin about it, which worsened their tense dynamic. Despite the chaos (or perhaps because of it), the episode earned the highest ratings of the season.
On his Instagram Stories, Abe spoke out amid the backlash.
“I don’t know who needs to hear this but… Brynn and Erin were being playful,” he wrote, via @queensofbravoplus on Instagram. “Erin would know I knew they were just messing around and that I wouldn’t care.”
“Brynn was not trying to “entrap” me, it was lighthearted and fun,” he continued. “[And] Ubah’s intentions were pure and I expressed to her that night that even though I knew (I was on speaker) that I appreciated the intent.”
“Anyone hating on any of the girls for any of this … it’s not that deep,” he said. “And no, Erin did not ask me to post this.”
On her own Instagram, Erin also clarified: “I texted Abe before [the call] and he knew.”
Ubah then reacted to Erin’s post.
“If it was the right thing to do, she wouldn’t have texted her husband before the call – something I wasn’t aware of,” wrote Ubah on Instagram. “I believed it was wrong to put anyone on speakerphone without ensuring they knew they were being listened to.”
“But, clearly, the wife knew best,” she added. “Next time, I’ll either stay quiet or simply walk away.”
As of now, where Ubah stands with Erin is unclear, though she seems to still be feuding with Brynn. The upcoming reunion may reveal more to the story.
